Living in Delano

The City of Delano and Franklin Township are located in the southeastern corner of Wright County, Minnesota, just 27 miles from downtown Minneapolis, west on Interstate 394 and US Highway 12. The scenic South Fork of the Crow River runs through the community.

Delano prides itself in a “Spirit of Community,” growing at a steady but limited pace to retain the “small town” atmosphere. Delano also boasts one of the lowest tax rates in the State of Minnesota and the highest test scores in our schools.  Delano is also known for its spectacular Fourth of July Celebration.

The business community is thriving and growing. New commercial and industrial entities continue to move to Delano and bring with them new employment opportunities and a greater selection of goods and services for area residents. The Delano Area Chamber of Commerce (DACC) supports the business community by offering an ever-expanding list of opportunities and benefits to its members.

The DACC promotes the Delano area on behalf of our member businesses. Browse our website for a directory of our member businesses, an events calendar, membership information, facts about our schools, a list of clubs and organizations, and relocation information.

The DACC office is located at 131 Babcock Blvd W. In the entryway is a brochure rack with information about the community and about our member businesses.

In 1855, John E Ellis arrived in the Big Woods Country in southeast Wright County and staked a claim which later became the major part of the City of Delano.  Originally named "Crow River," the citizens of the area renamed the village "Delano" after Frances R Delano, the superintendent of the railroad. By the time of incorporation in 1876, Delano was a thriving metropolis of Wright County. The Great Northern Hotel served as the major rest stop for salesmen who made calls in Watertown, Mayer, New Germany, Lester Prairie, and Winsted.

There is a lot of history to this small town and early in 1999 the first Historical Society of Delano was formed. Visit www.delanomnhistory.org to learn about our area's history.
